Barcelona are in the uncomfortable position of having to chase archrivals Real Madrid in the La Liga standings, and defender Gerard Pique believes it is time to buckle down and focus on the things that the club can control and improve on. There has been much talk surrounding the team and referees, something that the centre-back is keen to have the squad distance themselves from.
“We must give confidence to Ibra and Henry. They are two very important players for us and they know what the team needs,” Pique said to Sport. “In recent months, the referees have become major players and we’re losing the charm of soccer. We have to forget about this issue because it only takes away from the grace of football," he said decisively.
Pique has been a rock for Barcelona since his transfer from Manchester United last summer, making 45 appearances in the club’s record-breaking season.
