Not too many people believed Fulham would take away a positive result when they visited Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico, but Fulham boss Roy Hodgson was furious at the manner in which his side gave away a third goal in first-half injury time. The English side now virtually need a miracle to overturn a 3-1 deficit to the Italian giants.
“We did enough in the game to show we are not out of it. We certainly weren’t disgraced,” Hodgson said after the match. "The only bitter pill for us to swallow is that their third goal just before half-time was completely unnecessary. We should have come in at 2-1 and with that scoreline for the second leg we would have been a lot happier."
Although chances of a comeback are remote, Dickson Etuhu’s goal gives Fulham a glimmer of hope when the tie resumes at Craven Cottage next week.
