Nigel de Jong reveals he is relishing the opportunity to be playing alongside one of the players he has always admired growing up in Patrick Vieira. The Dutch international admits he dreamed of becoming the same type of midfield player as his new team-mate, and is over the moon that he can learn from such a role model up close and personal.

“I admired English football from a young age,” Nigel declares on the club’s official website. “And especially the ‘midfield general’ type of player over here like Ince, Keane and Patrick Vieira. He was a player I really admired for his competitive spirit and it’s great that he’s here.”

Vieira is back in contention for the match against Sunderland on Sunday, after serving a suspension.
