Youngster Martin Kelly has just forced his way into the Liverpool first-team, making two appearances in Europe already this season. The 19-year-old claims he has former Red, and weekend opponent, Steve Finnan to thank for his rapid rise through the ranks of the club.

I used to watch Steve closely when he played for us because he was so consistent and he is a great person off the pitch as well," Kelly told Liverpoolfc.tv. "He was good to watch and he would always help everyone. If he saw you were shy he would come over and talk to you and make you feel like you belonged at the club.”

Finnan and the rest of crisis-stricken Portsmouth visit Anfield on Monday, where they will face a Liverpool side desperate to bounce back from their disappointment against Wigan.
