Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has warned the club that it will need to bring in quality players to ensure they meet his expectations. The Reds are currently in turmoil in the Premier League and off the pitch show no signs of securing the extra investment owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett require.
Torres told Spanish newspaper AS that new players were more important than scraping fourth place in the Premier League: "The really important thing is that the club make a big effort to bring in important players who will improve the quality of the squad."
"We need four or five top-class players to compete, who will make us grit our teeth and do everything we can to try to keep our places."
The Spanish star also warned that without a number of quality players arriving in the summer "next year we will once again be fighting for fourth."
Torres is desperate to compete at the top table, fighting to win the title and also taking part in the Champions League. Should Liverpool show no sign of improvement on and off the pitch, it seems more likely the former Atletico Madrid man will consider his future.
