Martin O’Neill believes Aston Villa were very fortunate to acquire two defensive gems in Richard Dunne and James Collins in the summer. The duo were signed for £5M each, and have proven to be bargains with the impressive performances they have put in for the top four contenders.

"I’m absolutely thrilled he (Dunne) decided to come to us because I suppose there was still the opportunity of him seeing out his contract at Manchester City. But he wanted to play and we took advantage of that and he has been fantastic value,” O’Neill said on the club’s official website. “You mention Collins as well and the two of them at £5m each have been fantastic value.”

Aston Villa’s push for fourth spot took a hit at the weekend as they could only manage a goalless draw against Stoke City.
