Liverpool are approaching a very important week in the campaign, a period that could shape the club’s entire season. It all begins with Monday’s match against Portsmouth, then the crunch tie against Lille in the Europa League in midweek, before visiting Old Trafford to play rivals Manchester United at the weekend.
"It is important to win – if you can play well it will be easier – but the main thing is to win," Benitez said on the club’s official website. "Every week is important for a top side. Now we are in a position where we have to think about the Europa League or to be in the top four. If we are in a better position [by Sunday] it will be an important week, if we are in a worse position it will still be an important week anyway."
This week could spell further progress in the club’s only shot for silverware and a chance to close the gap on fourth placed Tottenham, or it could possibly turn out to be the final nail in The Reds’ disastrous season.
