Although plenty has been made of Wayne Rooney’s unbelievable goal scoring form for Manchester United this season, manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes keeping his back four healthy will be the key to winning the title this season. With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic finally back together in the heart of the defence, the Red Devils have kept three clean sheets in succession.
"I think the key for us is if we can keep the back four in together," Ferguson told MUTV. "We’ve had a few injuries, particularly to defenders. I keep praying. If we can keep that back four together, with the experience they’ve got, and van der Sar’s experience at the back, that’ll give us a massive chance.”
Injuries have been cruel to Man Utd’s backline this season, with Ferguson even forced to deploy Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher at the back at one point.
