Bordeaux reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time in more than two decades, after surviving a scare to dispatch of Greek side Olympiacos. Right-back Matthieu Chalmé claims his side’s progression, along with Lyon’s passage proves the quality in Ligue 1 is improving.
"It’s great to be through with Lyon," said the Bordeaux defender on UEFA.com. "Having two French sides in the last eight is a real source of pride and it shows how competitive the league is now in France. Tonight wasn’t at all easy but the important thing was to get through. That’s what we’ve done."
Bordeaux continue to impress in the Champions League this season, having progressed to the last 16 top of a group that included football giants Bayern Munich and Juventus.
