Liverpool midfield general Javier Mascherano believes The Reds are on course to shock Manchester United when the two meet on Sunday. The reason for the Argentina captain’s optimism? The timely return to fitness and form of due Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.
Mascherano watched first hand as Torres and Gerrard took Lille apart in the Europa League last night, turning around a 1-0 first leg deficit with a comfortable 3-0 home romp, and he believes the presence of Torres especially is a big boost to the team.
"Maybe we are more clinical than before and Fernando is back" Mascherano told the club’s official site.
"Everyone knows his [Torres] partnership with Stevie [Gerrard] is really good for us and now we can look forward to a very important game on Sunday. We’ll try to win, for us, for the supporters and the club."
Should Liverpool continue their good run of form and leave Old Trafford with three points, as they did last season, then once again their top four challenge will look back on track.
