Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has warned his players that Benfica will represent tough opposition in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. The Reds were paired with the Portuguese giants in the draw for the last eight of the competition yesterday and now know their path to the final in Hamburg.
With Benfica having put Liverpool out of the Champions League in 2006, as the Anfield side were defending their title, Benitez is aware of the threat they pose.
"They are a massive club, with a lot of support from their fans and it will be a tough game." Benitez told the club’s official site.
"They are top of the table and playing really well at the moment."
Liverpool and Benfica will meet in Portugal on 1st April, with the second leg being played a week later, and the Premier League side will no doubt be aware of the footballing lesson the Liga Sagres outfit handed out to their Merseyside neighbours Everton earlier in the competition.
