Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has emerged as the front-runner to lead the Ivory Coast into the World Cup finals. The Swede, without a job since leaving English League Two side Notts County, has been a target for many countries desperate for a coach with such international experience.
Now, with Guus Hiddink having turned down the post, L’Equipe report that Ivory Coast president Jacques Anouma will meet with Eriksson in Paris within the next few days. If the two parties cannot come to an agreement then the African nation will most probably turn to Bruno Metsu, who shocked the world with Senegal in the 2002 tournament held in South Korea/Japan.
Regardless of Ivory Coast’s choice of coach to lead them to the finals, Gerard Gil, the former coach of the country’s youth side, is tipped to take the job after the World Cup on a long term basis.
