Real Madrid continued their impressive domestic form with another win at the weekend, this time against Sporting Gijon. The come-from-behind victory ensures they remain at the pinnacle of the La Liga standings, ahead of Barcelona only on goal difference. Rafael van der Vaart, who started the Los Blancos fight back, insists it is now vital to place heavy importance on all remaining matches in the league.
“The league is not only the Barca game. We must win the other ten games as well,” van der Vaart said on the club’s official website. “The Barcelona match is as important as the Sporting match. The derby against Atletico, for example, is also very complicated, like the rest of the games.”
Van der Vaart has made the most of an extended run in the Real Madrid side, impressing manager Manuel Pellegrini at every opportunity, and has been rewarded with more appearances.
