Eidur Gudjohnsen, who is on loan from Monaco, played a vital role in Tottenham Hotspur’s victory over Stoke City at the weekend, prompting manager Harry Redknapp to express his desire to keep the former Chelsea and Barcelona player at the club permanently.

"I want to keep him here next year. He’s a real top player and he’s got fantastic ability. With Jermain Defoe out injured he has got a big part to play,” Redknapp said on the league’s official website. "The chairman did the deal for him and I don’t know the details but we are certainly interested. The rest of the lads like him and they really love playing with him."

Gudjohnsen scored the opener on Saturday, before playing a terrific dummy to set up Niko Krancjar for the decisive second goal.
