Arsenal have been handed a welcome boost as they continue their push for an elusive Premier League title and Champions League glory, with news that long-term injury victim Robin van Persie is on the mend and close to a comeback.

"I think he will be back [with the Club] this week," said manager Arsene Wenger on the club’s official website. "We sent our fitness coach out to Holland where Robin has been having his rehabilitation. Physically he looks very sharp but we aim at least to wait a month."

Van Persie has been out since November after suffering ligament damage to his ankle on international duty, and was expected to be out for the season. His quick recovery could provide a vital addition to Arsenal, who are surprisingly in a strong position to possibly win an unexpected double.
