Australia have been hit with a blow after it was confirmed that defender Patrick Kisnorbo will miss the World Cup in June due to a Achilles injury. The Leeds United player needed to be brought off the field in a stretcher after just six minutes into the match against Millwall yesterday.
“He picked up a severe Achilles injury which will rule him out for the rest of the season and probably the World Cup,” Leeds manager Simon Grayson said on BBC Sport. "It is a huge blow for Paddy – he’s been a real warrior this season."
28-year-old Kisnorbo has won just five caps for Australia, but was expected to be named in Pim Verbeek’s squad when the Socceroos travel to South Africa for the World Cup. This is the second significant Achilles injury that has ruled out a player from the prestigious tournament, with David Beckham suffering a similar injury just a week before.
