2006 World Cup Best Young Player winner Lukas Podolski has not had the career that many had foreseen for him, but the 24-year-old, who has returned to boyhood club Cologne, is convinced he is returning to his best form ahead of the summer’s biggest international tournament. The former Bayern Munich outcast feels Germany can once again go far in the competition, despite being drawn into a tough group with Australia, Ghana and Serbia.
“It’s far from being an easy group. The first job is to stand your ground against all these teams,” Podolski said on Fifa.com. “There are no easy opponents these days, and especially not at the World Cup. But I’m convinced that if we play to our potential, we’ll qualify from our group and could go far”
Podolski made a high-profile move to German giants Bayern in 2006, but never really lived up to the high expectations that were placed on him.
Sevilla have fallen to fifth in the league, six points behind Valencia who are in third-place, the position the club finished in last season.
