Chelsea are currently experiencing a downturn in form, a slump that has seen them relinquish their hold on the top of the Premier League. Manager Carlo Ancelotti is determined to pull his side out of their current drop and is adamant defence will be the key to rediscovering the level of play needed to challenge for the title.

This is the most difficult moment of the season, but we don’t have to be afraid to say this and we are working to close this moment immediately with a victory,” Ancelotti said on the club’s official website. “Every team has a difficult moment in the season. In the past I had every year a problem with the team and every year the right way forward was to stay focused defensively.”

The Blues will attempt to cope with the recent loss of another defensive player in Branislav Ivanovic when they face rock-bottom Portsmouth tonight.
