Goalkeeper Pepe Reina insists that even winning the World Cup with Spain this summer wouldn’t quench his desire to win a Premier league title with Liverpool. The Reds last tasted silverware in 2006, when they won the FA Cup, but have failed to win the league since the 1989/90 season.

"It would be great to win the World Cup, but it definitely wouldn’t make up for this season with Liverpool," Reina told LFC Weekly. "The World Cup is your national team and I want to achieve medals with my club too. To win a Premier League title with Liverpool would be amazing. Hopefully we can do that during my time here.”

The Reds, who finished a close second last season, have had a disastrous campaign so far, leaving many of the Kop faithful disappointed at the club’s constant domestic shortcomings.
