France’s League Cup final takes place today as Bordeaux meet Marseille for the first trophy of the domestic season. While Bordeaux will no doubt have one eye on their Champions League clash with Lyon, the prize money put up for winning the tournament should give extra motivation, if any were needed.

The winners of the Coupe de la Ligue this year will pocket a cool €1.6M, while the runners-up can take away €1.2M.

For Bordeaux victory could represent the start of a season to remember as they lead the way in Ligue 1 and are still involved in the Champions League. For Marseille a win would give a guaranteed spot in next season’s Europa League, however, with the south of France giants just three points behind Bordeaux in the Ligue 1 table they will remain confident of challenging for at least a Champions League place.
