Russian champions Rubin Kazan are delighting in seeing off interest from several clubs, most notably Wolfsburg, for their striker Aleksandr Bukharov. The 25-year-old has been impressive for Rubin and has penned a new deal with the Premier League title holders which will keep him in Kazan for a further three years.
Bukharov, who won his first cap for Russia last year in a World Cup qualifier, was thought to be high on Wolfsburg’s list of possible replacements should their Bosnian star striker Edin Dzeko exit the Bundesliga this summer. Now though the Germans will have to look elsewhere.
Meanwhile Rubin Kazan are easing themselves into the new Russian season and plotting a renewed assault on the Champions League in 2010/11.
