Bayern Munich and Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer believes his former side are capable of stunning Manchester United, as the two football heavyweights lock horns in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Although he believes the reigning three-time Premier League titleholders are the clear favourites, he is confident the Bundesliga giants are in with a real shot.
“[Barcelona] are very, very strong and then there is Manchester United, but that’s the way it is. It’s not a request show, it’s a competition,” Beckenbauer said to UEFA.com. “You have to play the teams you are drawn against. You have two matches, and of course you can beat Manchester United over two matches, no question, but you need to be in very good shape."
Bayern will be looking for a bit of revenge against the English giants, as they were on the wrong end of Man Utd’s famous injury-time winner to clinch the Champions League title back in 1999.
