Following Bordeaux’s 3-1 first leg loss at Lyon in their Champions League quarter-final tie, coach Laurent Blanc has stated that although he is of course unhappy to leave the Stade Gerland defeated, he is pleased with how his side played.
"I’ve seen a very good match. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Bordeaux play like that. [Despite the defeat] I am very happy with the level of play. I very much enjoyed watching this match and watching my team."
Blanc also said he felt his side paid the price for the absence of Marc Planus and Alou Diarra, who would have been vital in their defensive play.
Bordeaux’s vital away goal, scored through Marouane Chamakh, does give them some hope however, as on home turf a 2-0 win over Lyon would be enough to see them progress to the semi-final.
