Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has praised Benfica midfielder Pablo Aimar ahead of the meeting between the two sides in the Europa League tonight. Aimar, who played under Benitez at Valencia, was heavily linked with a move to Anfield in the early days of the Spaniard’s reign.
"I think Aimar is a very good player and lad" Benitez told the club’s official website when asked about Benfica’s team. "He is a nice boy and I will be really pleased to see him scoring goals in the Portuguese championship."
Aimar will surely be a danger man for the Liga Sagres giants over the course of the tie, although inconsistency has conspired to keep the 30-year-old from hitting the heights most felt he would when he was younger.
