Just two days before El Clasico, Johan Cruyff will be saluted by Barcelona and officially made honorary president of the club according to Sport. The Dutchman retains legendary status at the Camp Nou, following two highly successful spells with the club, first as a player in the mid-1970s and then as a coach from 1988 to 1996.
The Catalan giants are keen to recognise his achievements and the esteem with which he is still held in the corridors of power. Indeed, it is Cruyff who has influenced policy at the club over the last decade. Now his role will be put on an even more official footing.
For Barcelona the special gala to award the honorary presidency will be the perfect boost ahead of the crucial meeting with Real Madrid just two days later.
