Bordeaux have been dealt a blow ahead of their Champions League return leg against Lyon and the run-in for the Ligue 1 title with the news that Brazilian midfielder Fernando will miss the remainder of the season.
The 28-year-old has fractured his cheekbone leading coach Laurent Blanc to confirm his season was over. The news is yet another run of bad luck for the French champions following their loss in the Coupe de la Ligue final to Marseille, and then losing the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final 3-1 to Lyon. Indeed, their season seems in real danger of self-destructing.
Fernando joined Bordeaux in 2005 from Italian side Siena. He has made eight appearances for the Brazilian national team.
