Although Steven Gerrard is convinced Liverpool will continue to fight until the end, he understands that the club are no longer favourites to capture fourth spot in the league and the final Champions League qualifying place. With The Reds drawing against Birmingham at the weekend, their ambitions to remain in the top four have been significantly hampered.
"It’s going to be really hard now. But I think what you notice is the race for fourth place seems to change from week to week,” the skipper said on the club’s official website. “You have to look at the teams above us but they are the favourites and we are the underdogs at the moment. But we will keep fighting all the way to the end.”
Liverpool still need to play five more league matches to finish the season, and they will have to win virtually all of them if they are to be in serious contention for the Champions League next season.
