Everton manager David Moyes insists Yakubu’s future remains with the Merseyside club, despite the player’s lack of playing time. The striker returned from a serious Achilles injury at the start of the season, but has yet to return to the type of form that saw him bang in 21 goals in the 2007/08 season.

"Yak has struggled, but yes, he has a future with us. He has had a difficult year with his Achilles, it has been tough for him,” Moyes explained on the club’s official website. “Yak has worked hard to get back into condition and we want to give him every opportunity to get back to where he was. We will give him every chance because we know he has the ability we need."

Yakubu netted a clinical header at the weekend, signs that the Nigerian international could be on his way back to rediscovering his best.
