Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes had the unusual scenario of facing three penalties at the weekend, two of which he managed to heroically keep out. Spurs still went down to Sunderland 3-1 however, leaving the popular shot-stopper with nothing to take from his impressive efforts.
"I’ve never faced three penalties in a game," said Gomes on the club’s official website. "It was a difficult moment and I just wanted to do my best because if I saved the penalties, we stayed in the game. Unfortunately, they scored a very good goal after 85 minutes and that was enough. It’s only better for me if we win the game, that’s all that matters."
All three spot kicks were taken by Sunderland striker Darren Bent, who was denied a hat-trick twice by the impressive Gomes.
