Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association over comments he made after his side’s loss to Manchester City two weeks ago. The Spanish manager was left fuming over referee Stuart Attwell’s decision to send Gary Caldwell off early in the second half, a moment he explained was telling to the result.
“He (Attwell) said he saw Gary Caldwell with both feet off the ground. That’s why he gave the red card. But Gary Caldwell only went with one foot,” Martinez explained on BBC Sport after the loss. "The decision was a key moment in the game and until that moment we were coping really well with everything Man City had.”
Martinez has until the 22nd of April to respond to the FA charge.
