Liverpool continue their quest for silverware this season after successfully overturning a first leg deficit to beat Benfica 4-1 in the deciding quarter-final match at Anfield. Despite the Europa League not being as prestigious as the Champions League, manager Rafael Benitez claims his side’s performance last night proves the Merseyside giants are still one of the best teams on the continent.

We are one of the top sides in Europe. We have been at this level in the last few years and Benfica are another one of the good teams,” the Spanish tactician said on the club’s official website. "Benfica have done well and are at the top of the table. They are a massive club and one of the top sides in Europe – there is no doubt about this."

Success in the Europa League could salvage Liverpool’s disastrous season, a campaign which has seen the side in danger of missing out on qualifying for the Champions League next year.
