Lionel Messi has declared Barcelona a superior side to Real Madrid following their 2-0 victory at the Bernabeu last night. Messi, who scored the first goal of the contest stated: "Barca are superior to Real Madrid is what matters."
The Catalan giants were understandably delighted with the win which puts them three points clear of their fierce rivals and also inflicted a first home defeat of the season on them. Indeed, coming into the match Real Madrid had won all 15 of their home games.
"We came to play the leaders" said Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, "on the pitch where they won 15 out of 15. We won the game. We are satisfied but there are still a lot [of games] to play."
Barcelona will have the chance to go six points clear when they meet Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday as La Liga enjoy a midweek round of games. Real Madrid will travel to Almeria on Thursday.
