Nigel de Jong, who was a last minute inclusion to the Manchester City side that hammered Birmingham on Sunday, has expressed his delight at finally not having to worry about the possibility of being suspended for two games. The Premier League deadline for suspensions has passed however, meaning the midfielder, who was on nine yellow cards, no long has to hold back any longer.
“I was on nine yellow cards, and the gaffer had pulled me to one side two days ago to tell me he was going to put me in the bench. Another yellow would have taken me to 10, and I would have been out of the United and Arsenal games,” de Jong said on the club’s official website. "Now I’m unleashed, finally I can go on!" he laughs.
De Jong will be a welcome sight for Man City, who are in the prime position to be the final Premier League team to qualify for the Champions League next season.
