Real Madrid Director General Jorge Valdano insists the club will not lose hope of winning the La Liga title despite losing to Barcelona for the second time this season. The defeat puts their archrivals in prime position in the standings, but the 54-year-old believes it is not in Los Blancos’ character to give in.

Whether we win the league or not, seven finals remain and we are obligated to play our hearts out until 16 May,” Valdano told the club’s official website. “By earning the remaining 21 points we would finish with a league record 98. That is why we are required to put forth our best effort. And if our main rival slips up one of these days..."

With the loss, Real Madrid hold the head-to-head disadvantage, meaning should they be level on points with Barca at the end of the season, the Catalan giants will be crowned champions of La Liga.
