Birmingham City, who are currently ninth in the league, have enjoyed a wondrous return to the Premier League this season, and have even benefited from being acquired by a wealthy owner in Carson Yeung. Manager Alex McLeish admits the club will be busy reinforcing the squad this summer, but is quick to state he will not be offering over the top wages.

We may spend a few bob on transfers, but you know we do still need to be careful on the wages front," McLeish said on the league’s official website. "When you get to the higher levels you can see what happens to some clubs, especially if you get relegated. You can’t sustain those kind of wages.”

With the recent demise of Portsmouth still fresh in the minds, Birmingham are undoubtedly looking to avoid a similar incident as they continue their mission to strengthen the club in the summer.
