Barcelona’s ambition to defend their La Liga and Champions League titles has been dealt a major blow after Andes Iniesta suffered an unfortunate injury in training. The influential midfielder is likely miss up to four weeks, possibly forcing the 25–year-old out for the rest of the season.
A statement on the club’s official website said, “Andres Iniesta suffered a calf tear in his right leg during training this lunchtime and early indications show he could be out for up to a month.”
Iniesta battled through the pain of a thigh injury in the latter stages of last season, and proved vital in the Champions League final win over Manchester United. Should he fail to recover before the season ends, Barca will have lost a crucial piece in their formidable attacking force.
