Aston Villa have made it to Wembley twice this season, but both times left in disappointment as they lost to Manchester United and Chelsea in the Carling Cup final and FA Cup semi-finals respectively. Manager Martin O’Neill, despite being frustrated with the defeats, has commended his club’s fans for winning the battle of volume amongst supporters.
"They certainly outshouted Manchester United all day in that game. But they turned up again [in the FA Cup semi-final] in big droves and to hear them again really was very heartening,” The Villa boss said on the club’s official website. “So I could have nothing but commendation for the support that we received the other day. It really was fantastic and they dwarfed Chelsea – I wouldn’t say in terms of numbers but in terms of volume and intensity and it was really fantastic to hear."
O’Neill is calling for more of the same support when his club face Everton tonight in a crunch tie at Villa Park.
