Lionel Messi, despite being just 22 years old, is more than accustomed to being kicked in games, especially with the way he likes to run at opposition defenders. The Argentinean sensation admits he has grown to expect attempts to bring him down, but insists his desire to win matches overpowers any pain inflicted on him.

"I worked out long ago that the fact people try to kick and foul you comes with the territory when you play the way I do,” Messi said on UEFA.com. “At the start of a match, when you are not properly warmed up, it hurts a bit more. But by the time the game is in full flow, you are concentrating so hard on winning that usually you barely notice what has happened.”

Messi is looking likely to retain his World Player of the Year status in 2010, scoring a whopping 40 goals in just 44 matches already this season.
