Not only did Arsenal lose ground in the title race when they lost to Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night, they also lost defender Thomas Vermaelen for the rest of the season with a calf problem. Midfielder Denilson, also looks to be doubtful to play at the weekend after picking up a groin injury.
"We have to assess Denilson a little bit," said manager Arsene Wenger on the club’s official website. "He has a tight groin. I don’t think we lost anyone else from last night [apart from Vermaelen]. I have no more news about him today. But it looks like three weeks and that means the season is over for him."
On a brighter note, Robin van Persie looks to have emerged unscathed after returning from a long-term injury with an impressive cameo appearance against Spurs.
