Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill has nothing but great things to say about midfielder James Milner, who has enjoyed a fantastic second season with the club. The 24-year-old has been a mainstay in the side, and his boss feels his PFA nomination for the Young Player of the Year award speaks volumes of the former Newcastle man’s development.

"I am delighted to see he is in the running for the PFA Young Player of the Year award. It’s really richly deserved and I am delighted for him. He has been absolutely fantastic,” O’Neill said on the club’s official website "You do forget how young he is. He made his debut for Leeds United a long, long time ago – he was only 16-years-old at the time. He has been round.”

Milner has been deployed as more of a centre-midfielder in recent times for Villa, and has proven to be equally effective in the middle of the pitch as he is on the wings.
