Liverpool have been handed some welcome news with word that defender Martin Skrtel is ready to make his return to full training in about a week. The Slovakian centre-back has been out since late February with a metatarsal injury, but looks set to get back into the thick of the action sooner rather than later.

I had another scan so that my doctors can be absolutely sure that everything is okay,” Skrtel explained on the club’s official website. "They were satisfied with what they have seen. It means that I can spend my time on running belt from now on. It is a bit rigid but I hope that I can start working with the ball next week.”

Skrtel was a solid performer for The Reds when fit, and his return will certainly boost Liverpool’s backline.
