Manchester United will have to sweat on the fitness of Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs ahead of the Manchester derby on Saturday. The trio have all been nursing different injuries throughout the week, and will be assessed later today if they will be fit to play against Manchester City tomorrow.

"He’s done some good work over the last few days. The big problem is that all the players want to play. But we have to be 100 per cent sure that Wayne is ready,” manager Sir Alex Ferguson said on the club’s official website, before touching on the state of Giggs and Ferdinand, "They’re behind Wayne in progress," admitted the Scot. "They’ve done jogging but again we’ll have to see how they do today."

On more positive personnel news, Owen Hargreaves is reported to be joining the squad travelling to Eastlands after putting in an impressive training session.
