Jorge Valdano, Real Madrid’s general manager, has appealed to Cristiano Ronaldo to show a little more control and not to react to crowd provocation. The Portuguese star has been an undoubted success at the La Liga giants this season, but is increasingly becoming the target of opposing fans, keen to see him fail.

Indeed, in Real Madrid’s last match away to Almeria (won 2-1), Cristiano Ronaldo was the subject to a crowd he labelled "imbeciles" and made a gesture towards them. It is something Ronaldo needs to watch according to Valdano.

"Ronaldo must learn to control himself a little. Since we cannot ask the public to be calm, we instead ask him."

The €96M man looks on course to go without silverware this season, despite announcing himself to the Bernabeu faithful in spectacular style.
