According to French paper L ‘Equipe, Hamburg defender Jerome Boateng is believed to be set to sign with the Premier League’s mega-rich club Manchester City, just days after announcing he will not be extending his contract with his current team.
The youngster has been playing for the Bundesliga club since 2007, and although he is contracted with the club until 2012, has decided to venture on and make the jump to England, where his brother Kevin-Prince Boateng, plays as a midfielder for rock-bottom side Portsmouth.
Boateng, 21, has made three appearances for Germany’s senior side already, proof that the young Hamburg defender is of real quality. With Joleon Lescott continuing to struggle with injuries, the capture of the former Hertha player could prove vital in providing Man City’s backline with cover when necessary.
