Despite suffering the heartbreak of another Manchester United stoppage time winner and subsequently losing fourth place in the Premier League, Manchester City will be keen to get their bid for Champions League football back on track against Arsenal at the weekend. They will however, have to go the rest of the journey without injury-hit winger Martin Petrov.

My season is over,” the 31-year-old Bulgarian said on the league’s official website. "I wanted to play in several matches at the end of the championship but the doctors said I should take a rest for three more weeks. I am disappointed and at times even desperate. Deep inside I do not give up and hope to overcome this nightmare."

Petrov has had a nightmare season with a knee injury, featuring in only 16 matches for The Citizens this season, eight of which, he came on as a substitute.
