Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda has admitted that his former club Olympique Lyon continue to hold a special place in his heart. The 29-year-old spent four seasons with the Ligue 1 side before transferring to The Blues in 2007, to join Jose Mourinho in the Portuguese manager’s last year at Stamford Bridge.
“I am their number one fan,” Malouda said to L’Equipe. “I often return to Lyon because I have my house there and it makes me happy to see their direction. I am proud. They are going on a journey, and they owe nothing to anyone. It is they who have shaken up the hierarchy in Europe,” he continued. “They showed they were capable of feats this year, and I think they are still capable.”
Lyon play Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.
