Liverpool attacker Yossi Benayoun has vowed to win the Europa League in order to salvage a very disappointing season for the Merseyside giants. The Reds face Fernando Torres’ former club Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the competition, a tie that the Israeli wants to win for the striker, who will miss the special tie due to injury.

"I wanted him to play against his old club – he deserves to do it – as it would have been a special moment for him but we need to try and win the game for him,” Benayoun said on the club’s official website. “We need to finish what has been a disappointing season with a trophy. We want to give it to everyone, including Fernando. Any trophy you win is great and we want to do it."

Liverpool play the first leg in Madrid, before hosting the La Liga side at Anfield a week later.
