Barcelona will have to be without first-choice right-back Dani Alves when they host rock-bottom Xerez at the Camp Nou tomorrow. The defender was sent off after two cautionable offences in last weekend’s Catalan derby against Espanyol, which ended as a 0-0 draw.
The record-breaking side attempted to appeal Alves’ red card, but the Spanish Football Federation have rejected their bid, meaning the influential right-back has no choice but to remain a spectator on Saturday, as his team try to keep Real Madrid from surpassing their one-point advantage in the La Liga standings.
With the case being dismissed, Barca have confirmed that they will no longer take any further action in having the red card overturned.
