William Gallas could yet be on his way out of Arsenal according to a report in L’Equipe, as there appears no sign of the Frenchman putting pen to paper on a new contract. The 32-year-old defender is apparently keen to sign a deal for at least two years, while Arsenal would like merely a 12 month extension. And the deadlock shows no sign of being broken.
Good news for Gallas though comes in the form of a fitness boost for the World Cup. Despite having suffered a calf injury, and a recovery setback, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is sure the defender will be fit for South Africa – a tournament that could potentially showcase Gallas’ talents to a large audience and win him a lucrative deal elsewhere.
With the tournament on the horizon Arsenal should be keen to tie Gallas to a new contract, but as Wenger has said, "There is no good news. We are still in discussions. We have not found an agreement", this is looking unlikely.
