Feyenoord striker Roy Makaay has announced on his club’s official website that he will be retiring from professional football at the end of the current season. The 35-year-old, who enjoyed four seasons with German giants Bayern Munich, hangs up his boots after an illustrious 17-year career.

The former Dutch international holds an impressive record of 253 goals scored in 525 league matches throughout his career, and is still the holder of the fastest Champions League goal. Then still Bayern player, he scored only 10.2 seconds into the European match, helping knock out Real Madrid in the process.

Makaay has won league titles with Deportivo La Coruna and Bayern Munich, in addition to winning the European Golden Boot back in the 2002/03 season.
